A Day at Brookfield Zoo

Last Thursday I enjoyed a day of photographing at Brookfield Zoo with fellow photo club member, Howard.  During the winter months, the zoo is free on Tuesdays and Thursdays but despite a sunny day in the high 40's, there were very few people there.  We especially enjoyed the primates in the indoor Tropic World, watching the polar bear play in the water, and the lions were putting on quite a show with a lot of roaring.

The polar bear was having a great time playing with his toy...a dustpan!  Notice in the background another toy, a plastic shopping bag.

The gorillas were fascinating to watch and I got the feeling they liked to keep an eye on us, as well.  The old silverback has quite a stare and he certainly seems to keep the young ones in line.

The lions were challenging to photograph because of the bright sun and shadows but who can argue that they are magnificent and beautiful cats. Both the female and male put on quite a roaring show.
